2012 Organizing Resolutions

2012 Organizing ResolutionsEven though we work with an array of great organizing solutions every day, the staff here at SpaceSavers hasn’t solved all of our own organizing problems either.  We do, however, all have resolutions heading into 2012 so we thought we’d share them with you.

Controlling Kid Clutter: Kati is going to tackle taking control of the army of toys that has invaded every room of her house.

For Kendra, it’s a closet project: “I’m going to organize the shoes in my closet to justify having so many pairs.  If they’re all on racks or in shoe boxes, rather than a pile on the floor, it will look like there are fewer pairs…right?”

Paper Wrangling: Lisa is focused on organizing the constant influx of paper chaos streaming into her home: school work from her boys – tests, art work, notices, and lunch menus; bills, her college schoolwork, papers related to work-work, etc..

No new clutter for Jen – “I’m going to stick to the rule of one item in, one item out this year.  Ok, not for my collection of cake stands, but for everything else.”

I’m with Lisa–I must wrangle the paper! It boggles the mind how a family of 4 can kill so many trees.

  2. Heather says:

Mine is to install “lockers” in to our mudroom to keep track of all the gloves, scarves and boots that seem to multiply every winter.

  3. Rachel says:

I have GOT to clean out my kitchen pantry. So many random items and things that don’t belong there

  4. JW says:

OK I’m ahead of the resolution this year! Been through the entire house top to bottom since mid-Dec. Two puzzles are left: all those pre-digital age snapshots that will never make it into an album, and how in the world to store and keep accessible (and unbroken) the pyrex lids to my wonderful pyrex pots and casseroles? Any ideas out there???

  5. Noreen says:

My kids’ art work! It’s taking over the house – I love all of it and can’t seem to part with most of it, but there has to be a better solution than it overflowing my drawers (and stacking up in the laundry room…yep, I said it!).

    • Cindy says:

Try taking pictures of some of it, so you don’t “lose” it, then recycle. Also, put up some frames for some of the best – if it isn’t displayed, you aren’t truly enjoying it.

Another idea I saw the other day – I’d love to attribute it to the original author, but I don’t remember where it was – was to create a space for display and have the kids choose what stays and what gets archived. Then you don’t have to feel guilty when something comes down.
