Change of Seasons calls for a Closet Makeover
I don’t know about elsewhere, but here in North Carolina, we’ve had a cold spell. It is still August so it’s not really “cold”, but considering the high temperatures we’ve had for the last several weeks, the chill in the air is a nice change. Some of the trees in my back yard are even showing some hints of orange, yellow and red.
Autumn is the season I long for all year. I enjoy the brisk air, the crackling leaves and the deep colors. The kids head back to school. Family reunions and chicken stews take place. And Halloween is just around the corner.
With this change of seasons comes the need to do some organizing - or rather, some RE-organizing. Earlier this week, I was getting ready for work when I realized I should probably wear a sweater. A sweater in August??? You bet! (Didn’t I mention the cold spell?) The problem was, all my sweaters were in open stacks at the top most part of my closet and have not been washed since the first part of Spring. They were collecting dust! The morning rush is NOT the time to find out you have to wash the clothes you plan to wear to work. I did some creative layering that morning and decided I needed to give my closet a makeover. Not one that would just take care of holding all my clothes neatly, but a makeover that would help me to easily transition from one season to the next. Continue Reading »

Packing Up For School
I was finally able to organize my room the way I like it. It looks really nice now. But it’s that time of year again where I have to pack up all my stuff up for shool. This year I’m going to get a whole lot of Space Bags. They work great for packing a lot of clothes with limited space.
I am thinking about buying a Sterilite trunk or something like it. Since all of my suitcases are going to be filled with clothes; I need something to put all my other stuff in. My plan for this year is to limit the amount of bags I use. Every year I end up with two or three trash bags full of my stuff. I would like to use something else that doesn’t rip easily. Now that I think about it, I might need two trunks!

A Summer Cleaning Program - Tackling the Kid’s Rooms
Every year, my husband goes off to college for a Summer Masters program. He leaves on Monday and returns Thursday night. While he is away, the kids stay with Grandma and come home every Thursday to stay with us through the weekend. The arrangement has worked out well. Grandma loves to see the kids, I don’t have to worry about babysitters and the kids get spoiled rotten.
The best part about this situation is the free time I have with no children tearing apart the house! I spend the entire 6 weeks cleaning, decluttering and organizing. That may not sound like much fun to you and believe me, sometimes I’d rather be laying around by the pool! But the sense of satisfaction I get when I look around at a clean, orderly house is so great that I spend my summer doing this every year. Continue Reading »

Closet Mayhem
I finally went through and organized my dresser drawers. It was a hassle but I’m glad I did it. I love how much easier it is finding clothes to wear in the morning. There just one problem, I want to put my pants and shoes in my closet but have no room. I have a small closet with no doors to it. Plus, I have a tote full of winter clothes in my closet. It takes up all the floor room. I’ve tried putting my shoes on top of the tote but they just get in the way of my shirts.
I am thinking about getting a double hang. It would provide space for my pants in the closet but I’m afraid it would hang too low. This wouldn’t be a problem if I had somewhere else to put my tote. I’ve tried under my bed but it’s too tall. I’m not sure what I’m going to do with it. If any one has any suggestions please leave a comment. It would be very helpful. Thanks
